Legal history is a branch of science that reveals the birth of legal systems with their legal institutions and rules, the line of development they have undergone until today, and the causes and consequences of this. In this respect, the history of law provides important gains to law students both in terms of teaching the roots of legal institutions and institutions and gaining a legal formation.
In the General Legal History and Turkish Legal History courses given at the undergraduate level within the scope of this department, it is aimed to teach the periods that determine the law, how they affect the law in that period and how the law affects social life with its causes and consequences. In General Legal History courses, the subjects of law, history, society, state, development of positive law, legal institutions and concepts and basic branches of law in Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Ancient Egyptian, Hebrew, Ancient Iranian, Ancient Indian and Chinese civilisations are examined. The following are taught in Turkish Legal History courses: The birth of the legal institutions and rules existing in Turkey, the Turkish States before Islam and the Turkish States after Islam under two main headings, law, history, society, state, development of positive law, legal institutions and concepts and branches of law in order to understand the development line it has undergone until today.
